Management of the Simon Diedong-Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies SDD-UBIDS has expressed worry over the huge infrastructural deficit the school faces.
According to the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Emmanuel Derbile, the school lacks a well-functioning library, a central administration, an auditorium and has inadequate lecture halls as well as official university halls of residence.
He thus called for support and partnerships from well-meaning persons and organisations and implored on government to urgently complete all existing projects. Professor Derbile said this when he spoke to the media at the Matriculation Ceremony for Weekend MBA students at Wa.
In March early this year, the Simon Diedong-Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) opened applications for students to apply to pursue various MBA programmes. Out of the 214 applications, 195 persons were offered admission.
The programmes are MBA in Accounting, MBA in Finance, MBA in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, MBA in Marketing and Strategy, MBA in Information Systems, MBA in Health Services Management and Administration and Master of Public Administration.
The Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Emmanuel Derbile gave more insight into the new programmes being run at the University saying “these are programmes we are already running. We are aware that we have a constituency out there that cannot easily enroll in full-time programmes because of the nature of their work so we have repackaged them [the programmes] into weekend modules.
This is one of the innovations that we have come up with”. Professor Emmanuel Derbile said the glaring infrastructural deficit notwithstanding, the school has managed to remain among the leading tertiary institutions in the country.
“If you look around, you will see uncompleted projects. Most of these are actually being funded by the GETFund. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the GETFund to see to the immediate and speedy completion of these projects. This institution has a great future and what were are already doing with our inadequacies is marvelous,” he said.
The Interim Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Philip Duku Osei mentioned that the Weekend MBA Programmes will be run in three locations; that is, Wa, Tamale and Techiman. He said the University is committed to delivering quality and providing excellence.
