Sege: More Tidal Waves- Affected sleep in Classrooms, Church buildings

Nearly 2,000 people in Akplabanya and Anyamam have been affected by tidal waves with more than 400 hundred of them forced from their homes.

Coastal Communities in the Ada West District have, in the past years been experiencing flooding caused by tidal waves.

Residents however say the Communities have this week recorded the heaviest wave. They blamed the situation on lack of sea defense which was not extended to cover their coastline.

In Anyamam, a number of homes were knocked down as a result of pressure from rushing waters. People have started moving to higher grounds for safety.

In an interview with GBC News, the Zonal NADMO Coordinator, Titus Abayateye who is also a resident of Anyamam said they have found shelter for some of the victims in churches and classrooms.

After visiting the affected Communities, the District Chief Executive for the Ada West District, Sampson Tetteh Kpakpakpa assured the victims of the government’s support and promised to lobby for a sea defense work to bring lasting solutions to the problem.

Meanwhile MP for Sege, Christian Corletey Otuteye has called on National and Regional offices of NADMO to quickly intervene as the local NADMO office is handicapped.
