Seven member committee inaugurated to investigate smuggling of Rosewood

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asumah-Cheremeh, has tasked a seven member investigative team to unearth alleged corruption and smuggling of rosewoods despite the ban and export of the species.

Mr Asumah-Cheremeh said the committee is also to investigate alleged anomalies in respect of Rosewood salvage permits, transportation and export, and make the necessary recommendations to the Ministry for appropriate actions to be taken.

He said the committee should speak to all the relevant stakeholders along the Rosewood value- chain to identify the various issues and challenges.

Mr Asumah-Cheremeh said twenty-seven (27) trucks alleged to be carrying Rosewood from Fumbisi is heading towards Accra and have alerted the security agencies to lay surveillance to impound the trucks.
