Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, has shared insights into her journey of resilience and advocacy during an interview on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Speaking on the Breakfast Show with Thelma Tackie, she opened up about the challenges she faced after choosing to speak out on critical issues. Despite facing backlash, she remained steadfast in her beliefs.

“I was convinced that Ghana deserved change, and that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama was the right person to bring about that change,” she said.

Shamima Muslim highlighted the importance of fostering an inclusive and egalitarian society, expressing concern about the climate of fear that has silenced many voices in the country.

“For eight years, many Ghanaians have been robbed of their dignity and voice. People were unable to express their pain, angst, or expectations without fear of being attacked or victimised,” she explained.

Reflecting on her upbringing in Wa, in the Upper West Region, Ms. Muslim described how her early experiences of feeling like an outsider shaped her perspective.

“From my primary school days, I often felt like a loner. But over time, I’ve come to see that our differences can be a source of strength,” she said, stressing the importance of unity and shared values.

Her transition from journalism to politics marks a significant chapter in her career. In her new role, she aims to amplify the voices of ordinary Ghanaians and push for meaningful change.
