A member of the Council of State, Sam Okudzeto has expressed the need for Ghanaians especially the youth to understand the spirit behind the national pledge and show more reverence when reciting it.

He explained that the pledge is an oath of allegiance which represents the core relevance of the Ghanaian and his national life and body politic.

Mr. Okudzeto was speaking at the second public lecture of the Heritage Christian College in Accra as part of activities marking its maiden graduation.

Mr. Okudzeto, a lawyer with about 50 years standing at the Bar said it is important to adopt the pledge as a solemn national recitation in all schools.

He urged the youth to eschew corruption and use their brains to do something relevant for the country.

In a second lecture titled “Holding in high esteem our heritage won for us”, Professor Chris Gordon of the Institute of Environment and Sanitation Studies of the University of Ghana, urged the youth to strive for excellence in all they do saying they must eschew evil but strive to have a good name for themselves.
