The St Mary’s Old Girls Association Class of 1974, SMOGA ’74, has held a Thanksgiving Service at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra to climax activities, marking its 50 years of completing school.
Preaching at the occasion, the Parish Priest in Charge, Rev. Father Gerald Owusu-Amankwatia, spoke against the negative effects of envy and jealousy, which he said are negative tendencies that destroy the fabric and the very foundation of associations and society in general.
He called on SMOGA’74 to uphold the Christian virtue of love and care for one another.
The President of SMOGA’74, Ms. Esther Mullings, expressed the group’s gratitude to God for his love, protection, and mercies over the past 50 years.
She said God’s grace has seen the group travel through these 50 years of completing secondary education and asked for God’s continued protection for the years ahead.
SMOGA ”74″, also known as the Princesses, was formed nine years ago with its first president, Mrs Dela Ayekpa, who played a pivotal role in its formation.
She urged members to continue to lift up the banner of SMOGA 74 high and support one another in the years ahead.
A reception was held later to round off the memorable occasion. It was attended by the Global President of SMOGA, Mrs Lynda Graham, staff of St Mary”s Senior High School who represented the headmistress, Miss Philomena Owusu-Ansah, and other year groups.
Presentations were made to notable people for their contribution and support for SMOGA 74.
As part of activities marking its anniversary, SMOGA ’74 undertook a project that involved the reconstruction of a walkway linking two dormitories to facilitate the movement of students from the bathrooms to the dormitories, which before then got muddy whenever it rained.
St Mary’s Senior High School is an all-female Catholic second cycle institution which has turned out great women holding responsible positions across the globe.
The school marks its 75th anniversary next year.
