A private legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has revealed that currently he has about 56 pending divorce cases of which most of them are based on the influence of social media. He made this revelation on ‘GTV’s Breakfast Show‘ this morning.
According to Lawyer Ampaw, “today, what is creating problems for many homes is the influence of social media and that is causing a lot of broken homes because it is exposing our marriages to the entire world where we have women who cheat on their husbands because of what they watch on social media”.
He continued by saying, “women can contact their ex boyfriends and meet each other even after marriage”. He added that “cheating is for men, it is acceptable in our society because men are naturally cheats and we do without reasons. When you cheat you can compensate your wife and she will accept,” he concluded.
Marriage is a legally and socially sanctioned union, usually between a man and a woman, that is regulated by laws, rules, customs, beliefs, and attitudes that prescribe the rights and duties of the partners and accords status to their offspring (if any) whilst Divorce is the process of terminating a marriage or marital union.
According to research by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), 362,233 out of the 553,065 divorced persons are females with the remaining 190,832 being males, representing a share of 65.5% and 34.5%, respectively.
