Stop attacks on police officers & stations- IGP warns public

The Inspector General of Police, (IGP), COP David Asante Apeatu has called for an end to the attacks on police stations and personnel of the service since they are State properties.

He said the Police command is mandated to enforce laws and protect the public hence the need to support and cooperate with them to effectively deliver on their mandate.

IGP, Asante Apeatu made the appeal at the Commissioning of an ultramodern Police Station at Tema Community 25 in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality.

The about two hundred thousand Ghana Cedis facility was constructed by members of the Community 25 residents association.

This follows the reported cases of robbery and theft cases in the community.

The ceremony was witnessed by top officials in the Police Service including the Deputy IGP, James Oppong Boadu, Director of Operations, COP George Alex Mensah.

Mr. Asante Apeatu mentioned that the command has put in place robust measures to transform the Service and reiterated the need for all to partner the Police Service in realizing its transformation agenda.

He charged the Command to ensure a strong maintenance culture and pleaded with the community members to collaborate with Officers in the area.

The Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Akrofi-Oyirifi said the region has seen a reduction in crime after the command intensified snap checks particularly controlling the influx of motorbikes.

The Chairman of the Community 25 Residents Association, Bagnaba Van-Gogh, said although they had some challenges with the construction of the Police station they are hope the facility will enhance security in the area.

The IGP presented a new patrol vehicle to the newly built Community 25 District Police Station.
