Student nurses in the Upper East Region have been admonished to stay away from social media during working hours in their practical lessons. At the 25th Matriculation Ceremony for level 100 students of the Bolgatanga Nurses Training College, a Senior Health Services Administrator at the Upper East Regional Hospital Mr. Elias Mort observed that the use of TikTok has become a nuisance in the profession.

“Most people these days especially the young ones, they have found this addiction to social media and you see them all the time even in the ward, you see them chatting on their phones while patients are waiting to be attended to. It’s a problem and I think we have to look at it holistically” Mr. Mort observed.

Mr. Elias Mort added that the hospital administration is working to ensure that clients who patronize the facility get the needed health attention.

He also warned that they would punish student nurses who engage in TikTok during their practical attachments at the hospital facility.

“A sick person is an angry person. You don’t come to the hospital emotionally charged and don’t get the kind of care that you need. So the hospital administration will not countenance or tolerate such behavior during working hours. Any student nurse coming for practical lessons at the hospital should be careful not to incur the wrath of the hospital authorities by engaging in social media anyhow.” He warned.

The Bolgatanga Nurses Training College received about 792 applications but only 281 applicants were given admissions to offer Diploma in General nursing for the 2021-2022 academic year.
