Engineer of South Tongu District Assembly hit by stray bullets

A man believed to be the District Engineer at the South Tongu District Assembly, in the Volta region has sustained gunshot injuries after he was hit by stray bullets.

According to a source, some customs officers on the night of Wednesday, February 19, 2025, around 9:00 p.m. in Sogakope, the district capital of South Tongu District Assembly fired at a vehicle attempting to evade arrest.

The actions of the customs officials left an innocent bystander injured.

The vehicle in question, a Mercedes-Benz with registration number GC 3361-14, was being pursued by customs officials. In their attempt to stop the vehicle, officers opened fire, hitting its rear windshield.

Tragically, the bullets from the gun hit an engineer working at the South Tongu District Assembly, whose name was given as Alex.

According to eyewitnesses, the District Engineer was standing by the roadside, waiting to board a vehicle to Accra, when he was caught in the unfortunate tragedy.

He was immediately rushed to Comboni Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. However, authorities from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
