The Student Loan Trust Fund, SLTF has temporarily suspended the publication of names and pictures of persons who have defaulted in the payment of loans taken while in school.

The Fund Thursday began publishing the names and pictures of defaulters after it was realised that about 20,000 beneficiaries of the fund have defaulted.

The fund that has been set aside by government to help needy students in tertiary institutions currently provides each student with at least ¢10,000.00.

Per this, the amount owned by defaulters runs into some ¢200 million.

In an interview with George Asekere on GBC’s current affairs programme, ‘Behind The News’, the P.R.O. of SLTF, George Laing, said despite the huge sums owed the fund, it is working to recover the monies.

He explained that the decision to suspend publishing the names and pictures is to monitor the situation for about a week, after which it will go back to it if the target is not met.
