Ghana's Supreme Court to hear Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill Case October 15-17

The Supreme Court is ready to hear an application filed by Lawyer for Parliament, Thadeus Sory for permission to file a defence in the suits challenging the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill despite missing the 14-day deadline mandated by Court rules.

The application is expected to be addressed during the Supreme Court’s sittings from October 15 to 17, 2024.

Registrar of the Supreme Court Justice Ellen Offei-Ayeh said the Court will hear every case especially those on the anti-LGBTQ Bill when all required processes are filed by the parties.

The proponents of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill have announced a planned protest to register their displeasure over what they describe as a delay in hearing the suits before the Supreme Court.

However, Justice Offei-Ayeh Offei-Aryeh said the parties involved in the suits have not complied with the Court’s directive to file the processes required for the hearing to progress.

She said the procedural delays have hindered the hearing of the suits and assured that once the parties fulfill their obligations the hearings will proceed.
