Suspected armed robber nabbed in Sunyani

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a long-standing wanted armed robbery suspect, Abdulai Karim in Sunyani in the Bono Region. Karim, who is 24 years old and hails from Yawhima near Sunyani was arrested in connection with a multiplicity of crimes he is suspected to have been involved in.

These include Murder, Rape, Robbery and Stealing. According to the Bono Regional Police Commander, DCOP Godfred Owusu Boateng, the suspect who has been terrorizing residents in the Sunyani Municipality was arrested in his hideout in a hotel (name withheld) in Sunyani.

Briefing the media in Sunyani, the Bono Regional Police Commander (DCOP) Godfred Owusu Boateng said, on Sunday 23rd February 2020, they arrested Abdulai Karim also known as JJ who is suspected to has been attacking and robbing and in some cases raping his female victims in and around Sunyani since 2019.

DCOP Owusu Boateng said the suspect Abdulai Karim usually enters victim’s bedrooms through their windows, front doors or sometimes cuts power to his target houses before striking to rob and rape. He said the activities of Abdulai Karim was of great worry to the Bono Regional Security Council and the Regional police command which led to his arrest.

DCOP Owusu Boateng said the suspect was arrested in his hideout with an accomplice in an unnamed hotel in Sunyani.

A gun was seized from him and according to the Regional Commander, the suspect confessed to the crimes during interrogation. DCOP Boateng appealed to anyone who might have fallen victim to Karim to visit the Bono Regional Crime Office to assist in investigations. He also cautioned the public to be vigilant and avoid moving alone in the night.

DCOP Godfred Owusu Boateng also cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to cause any further distress to victims and their families. The suspected Abdulai Karim has since been arraigned before the district court “B” in Sunyani and has been remanded in police custody to assist in investigations.
