GBC Uniiq FM’s Kwame Insaidoo has described his award as Radio Mid-Morning Show personality of the year, as a reward for his good work in the radio industry over the years.

He said he has worked tirelessly in his nearly three decades of practice, to give his listeners the best radio experience. He added that being an on-air radio presenter is not about “noise making,” but being professional at all times.

Speaking to GBC Ghana Online, Mr. Insaidoo, who said his journey in the media industry has been a long one, stated that the recognition did not come to him as a surprise.

“It’s been a very long story, but for the fact that I’m a GBC-trained broadcaster, I believe in decency and decorum; it’s not about making noise, and some of us have worked tirelessly to make sure we give listeners and audience the best in media, and so when it came for me, it was not a surprise, but I thought and believe it was a reward for good work over the years.

The Sintex Ghana Media Personality Awards is an annual event that recognises outstanding personalities in the media industry. This year’s event took place on Saturday, July 16, 2023, in Accra.

Mr. Insaidoo said he will leverage the award, which is his first in the Ghanaian media industry, to promote decency and decorum on radio. He noted that these are the hallmarks of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

“My award is for decency and decorum. In GBC, we do stories, we do presentations, and we are a reference point in the world for media practice. So what I will say is, let’s learn from GBC.”

Mr. Insaidoo was unhappy that the Ghanaian media has not diversified its content to give its audiences varied preferences. He called on practitioners to rise to the occasion to ensure its numerous audiences have the best possible experience.

“We have not done a lot for our audience in Ghana. We don’t give listeners variety. They tune in to stations A, B, C, and D, and they are playing the same songs and saying the same things. It’s hard time we diversify and create something that will give listeners alternatives to listening to A, B, or C somewhere. We need to rise and aspire to greater heights.”

Kwame Insaidoo is a seasoned broadcaster with decades of rich radio experience in the industry. He was the founding father of GBC’s first FM stereo station in Sekondi-Takoradi’s Twin City FM (94.7), in 1995. He is currently a senior manager at GBC and a prominent voice on the mid-morning show on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Uniiq FM.  Mr. Insaidoo was in contention with names like Ohemaa Woyeje, Richard Osei Poku, DJ Obofour, and Sokoo Hemaa, among others.

Mr. Insaidoo, popularly known as Kwame Uniiq, expressed appreciation to his employer, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, for contributing immensely to shaping his career.
