The Takoradi Circuit Court in the Western Region has adjourned to November 11, 2021, case involving woman in the middle of the fake pregnancy and kidnap saga, Josephine Payin Mensah.
At a court sitting which lasted less than 10 minutes the Presiding judge, Micheal Cudjoe Ampadu said the case needed to be adjourned to allow for the submission of some documents and again the substantive prosecutor handling the case was absent.
Background
Josephine Panyin Mensah Simmons was on September 16, 2021, reported missing by the family amidst claims that the woman who was purported to be pregnant had been kidnapped.
Frantic efforts were made by family, well-wishers, and the security services to look for her as the supposed kidnappers had been calling the mother for ransom. However, on September 21, 2021.
She appeared at Axim alleging she was kidnapped alongside 11 other pregnant women. Upon a series of Medical Examinations, at the Axim Government Hospital and subsequently, at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, it turned out that, there was neither pregnancy nor delivery.
The woman later in the presence of Police investigators, Psychologists, and some family members confessed to faking the pregnancy and the kidnapping. She was therefore handed over to the Takoradi Central Police who processed her and arraigned her before the court where she was granted bail in the sum of 50,000 Cedis, with 2 sureties. However, Miss Payin Mensah could not immediately meet her bail requirements on September 27, until after eight days.
Lead Counsel
Meanwhile, Lead Counsel for the accused, Lawyer Phillip Fiifi Buckman says the law requires that all documents, witnesses as well as witness statements intended to be used during the trial should be made available to his team for Case Management before the next court appearance.
The accused Josephine Panyin Mensah was spotted in court looking well, debunking speculations that she was not well.
She was in court accompanied by her mother and others believed to be her relatives.
