A tanker driver Awudu Yakubu has been sentenced to twenty years imprisonment by an Accra circuit court for stealing and selling fifty four litres of diesel which was to be supplied to buyers in the Northern Region.
The judgement was pronounced upon the convict’s own plea of guilty to the offence to deter others.
Awudu was in charge of the truck given to him by the complainant at Tema to supply fuel on the 24th of June this year (2019) but decided to sell out all the Diesel and afterwards set fire to the truck between Osino and Anyinam in the Eastern Region under the pretext of the vehicle being involved in an accident.
When the vehicle was inspected after the accident, it was discovered that the fuel which was worth more than GH¢280,000 had been emptied from the tank.
The discovery made the complainant suspicious and queried the driver’s assistant Isaac Boadi who confessed to the police that the driver sold the fuel to another in Tema.
The driver’s assistant had however pleaded not guilty to the offence and has been granted bail of GH¢200,000.
The case has been adjourned to the third of next month for the court to continue trial with the driver’s assistant.
