The strike declared by the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG), has kicked off across the country.
It came off despite a directive from the National Labour Commission for TUTAG to call off the industrial action and go to the negotiation table on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.
According to TUTAG, the strike is to compel Government to address their concerns which include poor conditions of service and issues with the Tier 2 Pension Scheme, as well as the promotion criteria in Technical Universities.
The strike by TUTAG comes off as the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana resumed work on Monday after they also embarked on a nationwide strike last week.
In an interview with GBC News, Local Chairman of the Cape Coast Technical University, Uriah Tetteh, said the Association will honour the invitation by the NLC on Wednesday June 16.
Mr. Tetteh denied claims that Labour Groups like TUTAG prefer strike over negotiations to get their concerns resolved.
Meanwhile, the National Labour Commission has appealed to TUTAG to rescind its decision to embark on strike.
Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ofosu Asamoah assured members of TUTAG that their concerns will be addressed.
