Thursday, May 13, declared as public holiday

Government has declared Thursday, May 13, as a statutory public holiday.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Interior said the holiday is to mark the Eid ul-Fitr festivities.

“The general public is hereby informed that Thursday, 13th May, 2021 which marks Eid ul-Fitr, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement signed by Sector Minister, Ambrose Dery, on Friday, May 7, said.

Eid ul-Fitr is a very important festival in the Islamic calendar and was started by the Prophet Muhammad himself.

It is also known as ‘The Feast of Breaking the Fast’ and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramadan.

Eid ul-Fitr takes place on the first day of the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
