The people of Fuvume in the Anloga Constituency of the Volta Region are appealing to the Volta River Authority to dredge the Volta River, especially where it enters the sea – in that community.
The lives of three people including a baby were lost in the recent sea action in the area. More than one thousand residents have been rendered homeless.
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing is in the Ketu South Constituency to access the state of devastation caused by the tidal waves that swept through the communities recently.
VISIT TO TIDAL WAVE VICTIMS
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Anloga, Mr. Richard Sefe said the dredging of the Lower Volta end of the Volta River, which has not taken place in years, contributed to the level of destruction caused by the tidal waves.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, Mr. Isaac Asiamah said they would make appropriate recommendations to parliament to bring a lasting solution to the tidal waves problem in the area.
The education of the children at Fuvume has been gravely affected as they have lost their school building to the disaster.
They are appealing to the government to begin the phase 2 of the Blekusu Sea Defence project to prevent a recurrence of the problem.
