The Concerned Drivers Association is calling on the government to reintroduce the collection of road tolls nationwide in the 2024 budget, scheduled for presentation to Parliament by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
In an interview with Citi News, the Association’s Public Relations Officer, David Agboado, stressed the critical need for the government to address road infrastructure challenges.
“Our roads are in a very deplorable state, and the government should address this by reinstating toll services. This way, our physically challenged brothers and sisters will also find employment opportunities and contribute to fixing the roads.”
The association is also urging the government to prioritise the allocation of funds for the repair of deteriorating roads.
David Agboado highlighted that the reintroduction of road tolls could benefit workers, particularly those with disabilities. Agboado suggested a comprehensive review of the reintroduction of road tolls, emphasising that the resulting revenue could be allocated to address critical road repair needs.
Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is expected to present the government’s budget and economic policy to Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
This presentation seeks to articulate the government’s plans for generating revenue and implementing policies aimed at addressing the existing economic difficulties experienced by the people of Ghana.
