The Accra High Court has sentenced a trader, Daniel Agbeko, to 15-year jail term for narcotics offences.
The Court also ordered him to pay a fine of GHC120,000 and, in default, serve another three years in prison.
Agbeko was found guilty of conspiracy, importation of narcotics without licence and attempted exportation of narcotics without authority.
The convict was first arraigned before the court on June 28, 2022, after officials of the Narcotic Control Commission intercepted a package containing narcotic substance he had attempted to send to Australia through a freight and logistics company.
The vigilance of the Narcotics Control Commission officials led to the discovery of the narcotics, which were concealed in a picture frame bound for Australia.
When the convict was contacted by the Officials after the discovery, Agbeko admitted receiving several parcels from one John Emeka for export.
The said Emeka is at large.
The Court presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons held that the prosecution proved the guilt of the convict in acting and agreeing with Emeka in an audio on the arrival and posting of the parcel containing the drugs.
The Court also said the prosecution was able to establish its case against the convict in facilitating the importation and exportation of the narcotic substance.
