The Socialist Movement of Ghana and the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign have picketed at the forecourt of the United Nations Offices in Accra to protect and express their utmost disgust level of impunity perpetrated by Israel against Palestinian people of labour Gaza.
Addressing the media, a member of the Socialist Movement of GGhana,Lawyer Wayoe GGhanamannti, said more than 29 thousand Palestinians, mostly women, have been killed by Israeli attacks on the territory.
He said it is shocking to note that all these atrocities are being committed under the glaring watch of the United Nations. Lawyer Wayoe said all resolutions passed by the General Assembly calling for a ceasefire have been vetoed by the United States.
”The war between Israel and Palestine isn’t a war between two armies but instead one army disrupting everything that must go on in Palestine, and that is the reason Lula Da Silva cautioned the world to be certain on its measures towards the war. Palestine has suffered from Israel for many years. We must accept that Palestinians are human beings and have every right to defend themselves as a nation, and that is the reason we are protesting today. We say Palestine has the right to freedom,” he added.
Louis Kajakolo, who is also a member of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, said the Socialist Movement of Ghana and the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign are demanding that the United Nations uphold its founding principles, that sovereignty, equality, and the right of the People to self-determination are not disregarded by any country.
According to Mr. Kajakolo, ”Israel was formed as a union or group, not a nation like we know Palestine to be. Israel came into existence through the intervention of the United Nations (UN). Based on this, we are calling on the United Nations to apply several measures to bring final resolutions to this conflict. The purpose of the UN is to protect its members. We call on them to do as much.”
