The Upper West Regional Chief Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Michael Tawiah Klutse, has admonished residents of the region against sand winning along water bodies to prevent siltation.
He gave this advice during the celebration of this year’s World Water Day at Konta, a suburb of Wa.

Mr Klutse indicated that extraction of clean water at the Company’s water extraction points will reduce the cost of treating water and eventually the cost for the public in terms of bills.
He observed that in areas where gold mining takes place in and along water bodies, there is an increase in water turbidity, which significantly raises the cost of treatment for GWCL customers.
Mr Klutse therefore charged the citizenry to uphold civic responsibility in protecting water bodies as a condition for “lower water bills”.

The Regional Chief Manager also stressed the importance of timely water bill payments to enable the company to continue delivering potable water and expanding its services to underserved areas.
Mr Klutse equally charged consumers to quickly report leakages to GWCL for remedial measures to be taken as soon as practicable.
The Upper West Regional Commercial Manager of GWCL, Solomon Danso, informed attendees that they can conveniently pay their water bills by dialing *1010# and entering their 12-digit customer account number to complete the process.

The Upper West Regional Distribution Manager of GWCL, Samuel Tibu, underscored the importance of customers using water wisely and also making sure they reach GWCL with the challenges that are within the purview of the Company for redress.

A resident of Konta, Julius Yirinuba Peter, expressed frustration over delays in addressing pipe bursts.

He cited an incident in his area, stating that despite reporting a burst pipe on January 5, 2025, the issue remained unresolved as of World Water Day.
