US Speaker Nancy Pelosi interacts with President Akufo-Addo

The first woman Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi who is leading a Congressional delegation to Ghana has paid a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra, Monday, July 29, 2019.

The meeting, according to President Akufo-Addo was aimed at deepening the bonds of co-operation and ties of friendship between Ghana and the United States of America.

Nancy Pelosi and her delegation who arrived in Accra on Sunday, July 28, held high-level discussions with President Akufo-Addo and some senior government officials.

President Akufo-Addo described her visit as a major boost to the year of return.

Ms. Nancy Pelosi who is a member of the Democratic Party has served as speaker of the United States House of Representatives since January this year.

She is the only woman to have held that office and is the highest-ranking elected woman in United States history.

As speaker of the House, she is second in the presidential line of succession, immediately after the Vice President.

First elected to Congress in 1987, Pelosi is currently in her 17th term as a congresswoman.

She saluted Ghana on her role in peace keeping across the globe. 

Congressman Jim Clyburn bought into Ghana”s idea of Ghana beyond aid.

President Akufo-Addo said the visit will boost Ghana-US relations.

He said Ghana was honoured to receive high level visits from the US including first lady, Melania Trump.

Madam Nancy Pelosi deliver an address to the Ghanaian Parliament on Wednesday.
