A pilot study along four beaches in Accra indicates a gradual accumulation of single use nose masks.
In view of this, attention of policy makers is being drawn to the additional problem that Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs for Covid-19 would have on aquatic life compounding the already existing plastic menace in the country.
At a workshop to disseminate the research findings, Dr. Edem Mahu of the Department of Marine and Fisheries Science said single use nose masks accounted for 2% of waste collected from the beaches.
The beaches were Kpeshie, Sakumono, Kokrobetey and the Arts Centre.
