The Upper West Regional Coordinating Director, Peter Maala, has paid glowing tribute to ex-servicemen and women and those still serving in the Ghana Armed Forces for their service to the nation and the world at large.
He added that Ghana is proud of generations of servicemen from the First and Second World Wars until now for their selfless service to humanity.
Mr. Maala expressed the sentiment when he interacted with some members of the Veterans Administration of Ghana (VAG) in the Upper West during this year’s Remembrance Day parade in Wa.
The parade to mark the day took place at the Cenotaph at Ministries under the command of Captain Obed Akwesi Gyasi of the 10 Merchanised Battalion in Wa.
Mr. Peter Maala, who reviewed the parade on behalf of the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, stressed the need for the citizenry to uphold the significance of Remembrance Day and not gloss over the sacrifices of servicemen and women.
Mr. Maala laid the first wreath on behalf of government and people of Ghana, whilst the Commanding Officer of the 10 Merchanised Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Godfred Asampong, laid the second one on behalf of the security services.
The Upper West Regional Chairman of the Veterans Administration of Ghana (VAG), Ex-Warrant Officer Class One (WOI) Dozie Kwesi Gyilley, who laid the third wreath on behalf of veterans, read the Biyon Verse.
Madam Emelia Donkoreh laid the fifth wreath on behalf of widows of veterans with the Paramount Chief of Busa, Naa Ali Seidu Pelpuo Yelmaana, who deputised for the Wa Naa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo, laying the fifth wreath on behalf of traditional rulers. Seven veterans were in attendance at the ceremony.
