Government has since 2017, completed one thousand one hundred and eighty (1180) -kilometers of roads across the Ashanti Region. The completed projects include Highway, Urban and Feeder roads.
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made the disclosure at the inauguration of rehabilitation and auxiliary infrastructure of Kumasi Inner Ring Road and adjacent Street Project at Nsenie near Kumasi.
The one hundred-kilometre-road (100KM) project was undertaken by M/S Contracta Construction firm based in the UK and completed within two years.
The project is to provide an integrated urban transport system responsive to the needs of society. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia performed the sod-cutting ceremony in December, 2019.
A total of one hundred kilometers of roads have been rehabilitated under the project in six Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies.
Dr. Bawumia said though Government has done a lot to construct roads in the region, there is still more to be done.
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta cautioned the public against destroying or reducing the lifespan of the roads through nefarious activities.
He disclosed that more roads are still under construction in the region and appealed to the people to bear with government.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah said the construction of the Suame Interchange will begin next month.
He said the region will have two additional interchanges at Bekwai Roundabout and Anloga Junction to ease traffic.
