Vice-President, Mahamadu Bawumia says Ghana is privileged to have the Chief Imam Sheikh Osumanu Nuhu Shaributu who is the embodiment of tolerance and peace.
He said the Chief Imam’s values have contributed immensely to the coexistence between Muslims and other religious bodies in the country.
Speaking at the annual Maulid, the birthday of the holy Prophet Mohammed in Accra, the Vice-President urged the youth to emulate the peaceful nature of the Chief Imam to ensure continuous peace in Ghana.
In attendance was the former President, John Mahama.
Maulid is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of the Holy Prophet Mohammed and is marked annually by Moslems. In Ghana the Chief Imam invites dignitaries and people from all walks of life to celebrate this important day on the Islamic calendar.
This year the programme was on the theme “Global peace and stability our collective responsibility”.
Vice President Bawumia eulogized the Holy Prophet Mohammed and the Chief Imam, Sheikh Osumanu Nuhu Shaributu. He said the Chief Imam has values which should be tapped into by the youth to enable them to contribute to national co-existence and development.
”The celebration of the Birthday of Prophet Mohammed should be a time to reflect on his teachings and values and how Ghanaians can inculcate that into their lifestyle”, he said.
Former President, John Mahama said the Holy Prophet Mohammed was a tolerant and peaceful person who must be emulated by Ghanaians.
He said the Chief Imam has all the traits of the Holy Prophet and has demonstrated this in many ways even under serious provocations.
Former President Mahama added his voice to calls on the youth to be tolerant as this will ensure peace and development.
