Water is key to all aspects of human life

This year’s World Water Day was celebrated in Masalani Town with calls to use water to foster good relations among the different communities.

Speaking during the occasion, County Executive for Water, Environment and Climate Change, Ahmed Ibrahim noted that this year’s theme “Leveraging Water for Peace” means cooperating on water, to create a positive ripple effect – fostering harmony, generating prosperity and building resilience to shared challenges.

“We must act upon the realization that water is not only a resource to be used and competed over, it is a human right, key to every aspect of life,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by other speakers led by Deputy County Commissioner Masalani, Masalani MCA, Bura MCA, Ijara MCA, Director Water and area elders.

The event was supported by save the Children and other partners including WomanKind and Kenya Red Cross.

At the same time, the Department of Water has received a donation of water treatment consumables from save the Children.

The equipment which will be used to treat water at various public water points in the county comprises of chlorine, sterilizer, absorbent pads, membrane filters, methanol, lauryl sulfate and water treatment tablets DPD.

Speaking when receiving the items, Waziri Ahmed thanked the save the Children team led by Eng. Abdirizack for their kind gesture and assured them the items will be put to proper use.
