The Vice Chairman of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in the Water and Sanitation Sector, (CONIWAS), Attah Arhin has called for a Presidential Special Initiative on ending Open Defecation.
Speaking at a joint News Conference by the Media Coalition Against Open Defecation and CONIWAS in Accra, Mr. Arhin said the establishment of a National Saniation Authority is long overdue. According to him, the Sanitation Authority when established will bridge the gap between the agencies in the sector.
“A Presidential special initiative may be required. How beautiful will it be if the President issued a directive that by 2021 every MMDA must ensure that open defecation has ended it will achieve results. The proposed establishment of the National Sanitation Authority is long overdue. It will ensure an effective Cordination of all the sanitation activities in this country including open defecation.”
