The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has blamed the current water shortages being experienced in parts of Accra on challenges at its Weija treatment plant.

In a statement, Chief Manager, Public Relations and Communications at GWCL Stanley Martey, said, “due to the challenges there has been a shortfall in the volumes of water currently being produced which has resulted in customers experiencing low pressures in the flow to their properties and erratic flow in other areas.”

The situation being experienced now Mr. Martey said is a combination of factors, including faulty equipment, increased demand, routine maintenance works and some unforeseen circumstances.

Affected areas are Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Anyaa, Lapaz, Darkuman, among others.

The statement said while maintenance is ongoing, some areas may experience more disruptions than others. Essential service providers and critical facilities like hospitals and schools will be prioritized.

GWCL however assures that its engineers are actively working to address the challenge to bring respite to the affected areas.
