Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, says government is working on a comprehensive strategy to protect the emerging mining industry in the Upper East Region.
He said government will use that strategy as a case study to protect other mining communities.
This, he said, has become necessary because of the numerous problems coming from other mining communities.
At a meeting with sector agencies under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in the Upper East as part of his tour of the five regions in the North, Mr Jinapor said government under his ministry is doing everything possible to get this strategy right for the region to also derive its full benefits.
On the issue of Rosewood, Mr Jinapor said the ban is complete and there is no Window or conditions attached to the banned. He said the harvesting, trading, import and export are banned with no discretion.
He indicated that government is committed to protecting the country’s green vegetation and forest cover and therefore the law will be applied forcefully against one caught in the Act.
The sector minister called on officials of the Forestry Commission to enforce the ban to the latter until such a time a review or new measures are taken.
