The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Bryan Acheampong on Friday, July 7, 2023, called on members of the National Food Suppliers Association (NFSA) who had picketed at the National Food Buffer Stock (NFBS) Company for four days to demand their money for food items supplied to senior high schools across the country to call-off their action.
The Minister of Agriculture assured them that payment processes for food suppliers will commence on Monday, July 17, 2023.
Members of the NFSA after heeding the minister’s call, however, cautioned that they will resume picketing if the government fails to honour its promise to pay them all the money owed them beginning July 17, 2023.
“We will be left with no option than to resume our picketing if the government fails to honour its July 17, 2023 promise to pay every pesewa owned us” they reiterated.
Speaking in an interview, the spokesperson for the Association, Mr. Kwaku Amedume said members are of high hopes that the government will honour its end of the bargain to restore calm.
“The Minister met us on Friday and gave us some assurances, but it doesn’t mean that we left the place because of those assurances. We left because we believed that we have created much awareness in demanding our money from the government and the Buffer Stock Company has admitted its indebtedness to us and has promised to pay by July 17, 2023, and we hope the government is able to pay as it has promised” he stated.
