Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, others honoured by West Africa International Press Ltd

The Director of Prisons (DOP), Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie and other distinguished personalities have been honoured during Pillars of Modern Ghana Conference/ Award organized by the West Africa International Press Limited.

The awards ceremony which was held at the Holiday Inn in Accra, on Wednesday, August 16 is an annual event organized by the West Africa International Press Limited to honour Ghanaian women who have made an indelible mark in their field of endeavour and for contributing to the economic growth of Ghana.

Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie was given a plaque and certificate.

The other personalities who were awarded include Professor Lydia Aziato, Vice Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Mrs Esther Dzifa Ofori, former MD, Ghana International Trade Fair Company, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, Chair and Leader of the Convention People’s Party among others.

The West Africa International Press Limited also launched a project dubbed ‘The Women Project’ to campaign for a female president in Ghana.

Dr. Dee Otibu-Asare, President of West Africa International Press Limited, publisher of New Ghanaian Magazine, in his opening remarks, said “Women are very powerful, they are better managers of institutions and corporate organizations”.

He concluded that women are less corrupt, and are better managers of the economy.

The New Ghanaian magazine, which hit the newsstands decades ago, has a wide circulation in West Africa and beyond, with several blue-chip companies, corporate institutions, and individuals as its subscribers.

In furtherance of its strategic objectives, the publication on an annual basis provides the platform for the recognition, promotion, and celebration of notable achievements by corporate entities and individuals.

As part of the recognition, some renowned men were also honoured for their key roles in the development of Ghana.

The group of male awardees includes retired DCOP Dr. Samuel Amoo, Dr. John Oduro Boateng, Noble Justice Asare Duose, Chairman Governing Council, Wisconsin International University College, and others.

The Director of Prisons (DOP), Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, congratulated the awardees, saying: “God has put women in strategic positions in our roles as social agents in the basic needs of society, so if our men will believe in us… it will help make Ghana a better place.”
