The First Prosecution witness in the case in which Mahama Ayariga and eight others are standing trial cannot be found.

When the case was called at the Commercial Division of the Accra High Court, the state was expected to call its first witness, but Michael Baafi, an officer from the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu’s office said they have not heard from the witness.

He told the court that they had made arrangements for the witness to come to Accra, but he called to say that his mother was indisposed and he was the one taking care of her.

Mr. Baafi said he called the witness again on Saturday, and he assured him that he was at the bus terminal ready to pick a car to Accra but he didn’t hear from him again. He told the court that, he called again at about 8pm on Sunday, but all his phones were off.

Justice Asare Botwe said due to the Chief Justice’s directive not to start new cases which may not conclude before the end of the legal year, she has to adjourn the case to start at the beginning of the legal year. The lawyers in the case however agreed to come back after the legal year.

The case was consequently adjourned to the 13th of October this year.
