Abantu for Development organized a press conference on 19th November at the Sun Lodge Hotel in Tesano elaborating on a significant milestone in promoting female leadership in Ghana.

With the participation of various stakeholders, from political parties to civil society organizations, the conference brought together voices committed to the cause of gender equality.

Becky Enyonam Ahadzi, the Coordinator of the AA Coalition, delivered a message of solidarity that resonated with all attendees, emphasizing the importance of the Affirmative Action Bill.

During the conference, the alarming underrepresentation of women in decision-making spaces was discussed, despite women making up more than half of the country’s population.

The speakers emphasized that empowering women is not just about increasing numbers but about harnessing the full potential of society. Concrete strategies were proposed to increase the participation of women, youth, and women with disabilities in Ghana’s governance system, highlighting that inclusion is essential for sustainable development.

As the 2024 elections approach, the urgency of these discussions becomes even more evident. Participants committed to working together to build a collective movement that drives tangible actions and support for female candidates.

The event was not only a space to share ideas but also a call to action to ensure that women’s voices are heard and valued at all levels of Ghanaian politics.

The conference concluded with a strong desire for collaboration and a renewed commitment to gender equality in the country.
