After a back and forth between labor unions and government, the two parties have now agreed on a 15% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) to be paid to all public sector workers.
It takes retrospective effect from July 1, 2022.
The COLA is to cushion public sector workers against the current economic difficulties.
Organised Labour had demanded a 20% but yesterday’s (July 14) negotiations ended with a mutual agreement of 15% across the board.
Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah read out the terms of the agreement reached after the negotiations.
Labour unions are expected to call off their strike following the agreement.
All four unions under the pre-tertiary education sector embarked on an industrial action from the 4th of this month after government failed their June 30 deadline for the payment of the COLA.
Other unions in the health sector and the public services also threatened togo on strike over the same issue.
Secretary General of the TUC, Dr. Yaw Baah called on all striking unions to resume work following the agreement.
