The Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye has assured the Chiefs and people of Ketu South in the Volta Region of the Government’s commitment to ensuring the construction of sea defence wall along the communities to protect lives and properties.
He said coastal protection is high on the Government’s agenda hence, plans have been put in place to avert the tidal waves and coastal erosion situation in the area.
The Minister disclosed this during a working visit to Ketu South to assess the tidal wave and coastal erosion situations and to permanently address its devastating effect on the Agavedzi, Salakope, Amutsinu and Adina communities, which are constantly affected by the tidal waves.
He said the implementation of the eight kilometers work, dubbed Blekusu Coastal Protection Project phase 2, which is the longest stretch among all the sea defence projects, will be done as a continuation of the first phase.
He emphasized that the project when completed, will help protect the Blekusu coastal stretch and improve on its economic activities as well as create jobs for indigenes.
The Minister, who was accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister, Achibald Letsa, Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive, Elliot Edem, and Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, Abla Dzifa Gomashie and some officials from the Ministry, paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Somey Traditional Area, Torgbi Adamah III.
Torgbi Adamah III, thanked Asenso-Boakye for the visit and said he was optimistic in the government’s commitment to ensure tidal that waves become a thing of the past.
On his part, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Letsa, reiterated the government’s assurance of solving the menace of the tidal waves.
