The Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bui-Kunuto Soale I, in consultation with his elders, has lifted the ban placed on Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

The Gonja King subsequently blessed Mr Jinapor as his worthy grandson and asked the chiefs in the Gonjaland to allow the Minister entry to their traditional areas.

Sources close to the Jakpa Palace revealed that the Overlord of Gonja Kingdom has expressed his satisfaction with the Minister’s explanations.

This was after Mr. Jinapor, in the company of some government officials, called on the Yagbonwura on Thursday, August 1, 2024, to explain his side of the story to him.

The Yagbonwura, last month, banned Mr Jinapor from entering the Jakpa Palace and all other palaces within the Gonja Kingdom.

The revered traditional leader also directed chiefs in Gonjalnd not to grant audience to any group that included the Minister.

The reports said the decision by the Yagbonwura followed certain actions that were deemed reprehensible by the chiefs and people of Gonjaland, including the Minister’s alleged refusal to facilitate the transfer of some officials from the Gonja Traditional Council and the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs.

It was also alleged that Mr Jinapor refused to seek the release of some people who were arrested within the Savannah Region.

The Lands Minister was also alleged to be interfering in matters relating to the Damongo Skin.

Following these reports, Mr Jinapor issued a statement affirming his high regard for the Yagbonwura and the chieftaincy institution.

The Minister indicated in his statement that he had no interest in the Damongo chieftaincy affairs, and that he was committed to serving the people of Damongo as their Member of Parliament and promoting the welfare of the people in the traditional area.

Credible sources indicated that the President of the Republic sent a delegation, which was led by the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, to meet with the Yagbonwura to resolve the issue amicably.

The President’s delegation was said to have called on the Yagbonwura at his Palace on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Sources close to the Japka Palace indicated that the Minister used the opportunity to explain his side of the story to the Yagbonwura, and reaffirmed his high regard and respect for the Yagbonwura and other Chiefs in the Gonjaland.
