The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo has called on Ghanaians to endeavor to consolidate and sustain the relative and enviable peace the country is currently enjoying.
According to him, peace is a pre-requisite for development and therefore it behooves all to make it a duty to foster and strengthen peace where ever they find themselves.
Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo made the call when he led the hierarchy of the church to pay a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dgabon, Ya Na Abukari Mahama at the Gbewa Palace at Yendi in the Northern Region.
The visit to the Gbewa Palace by the leadership of the Methodist Church Ghana forms part of activities towards the church’s Annual General Conference scheduled to take place in Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital.
The conference which commences on Wednesday, August 18 will see the leadership take stock of activities of the church and chart a path towards driving forward the development agenda of the church.
The conference will also deliberate on issues such as Evangelism and social interventions and later round up its activities with an induction ceremony of some persons into the ministry. The Presiding Bishop of the Church, Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo expressed gratitude to the Overlord and the people for the presence of the church on his land.
According to him, the visit is to officially congratulate him on his enskinment and also commiserate with him for the loss of one of his wives who passed on. Rev. Dr Boafo promised to collaborate with the king for the purpose of peace and development. He further called on the people to eschew all sorts of issues that do not promote peaceful coexistence to enable the needed development in the area.
The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Abukari Mahama commended the leadership for acknowledging the role the kingdom is playing as far as the Methodist church is concerned. He also acknowledged the role the church played during the hard times in Dagbon. Ya Na said the annual fire festival is a few days away and urged the church to pray for a trouble-free festival.
Accompanying the Presiding Bishop is the Administrative Bishop, lay President, Bishop of the Tamale Diocese, and other lay members of the church.
The leadership later inspected the Methodist church at Yendi for further development processes.
