The Konor of Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Oklepeme Nuer Anorbah Sasraku has made a passionate appeal to the government as a matter of urgency to return the lands that were forcefully taken from them by the British government back to the Krobo people.
He reiterated that the lands which are currently under the control of the Lands Commission are being mismanaged with the Krobo people not deriving any benefit from its sale and management.
Oklepeme Anorbah Sasraku made the appeal at the Grand Durbar of the 32nd Kloyosikplemi Festival Celebration of the Yilo State at Somanya, in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The occasion was participated by traditional authorities from boundary traditional areas like the New Juaben and Anum among others as well as political leaders, religious groups and all the six divisional chiefs and their people under the Yilo Krobo State.
Addressing the gathering, the Konor of Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Oklepeme Nuer Anorbah Sasraku appealed to the government to help rehabilitate the roads from Dodowa to Somanya, roads leading to market centres and tourist sites among others, adding that the roads have been patched severally and still in a very bad state.
The Oklepleme urged the government to provide the Senior High Schools in the Municipality with buses and pick-ups to make administrative work easy.
The Vice President and the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia called on all stakeholders to help protect and preserve the cultural heritage of Ghana thereby holding them sacred.
He noted that traditional authorities play a critical role in the development of the country hence, government will continue to collaborate with the traditional authorities to help promote the development of the country.
He asked for support in his quest to become President of Ghana and assured the Konor that his request will be addressed.
The Chairman for the occasion who is the Paramount Chief of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng noted that as the country gears towards the December polls, it is essential to carry forward the spirit of unity and peace. He reiterated that there is a need for all to remain united to ensure peaceful elections.
The Eastern Regional NPP Chairman, Jeff Konadu commended the Konor of Yilo State for his great vision to help promote the development of the Municipality. He appealed to the people of Krobo to vote massively for the NPP in the upcoming elections.
