The Daily Graphic is asking the country to renew commitments to persons with disabilities and mobilise supports from stakeholders to assist them. The paper is however disappointed that 13-years after the passage of the disability (Act, 715) the country has lost all its commitments to make public buildings accessible to people with disabilities and therefore appeals to government not to renege on its responsibilities to make all public buildings accessible, as detailed in the Act. The paper commends the Ministry of Business Development for giving some start-up capital to support some female persons with disabilities and suggests that cash support be accompanied with technical know-how to grow small scale businesses belonging to PWDS.
The Ghanaian Times expresses worry about the handling of the trade war between the Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA and their Nigerian counterparts, NUTAG. The Times referred to yesterday’s bloody clash at the Tip Toe Lane in Accra on GUTA’s attempt to close down some shops of Nigerians which led to the firing of guns and pelting of stones as shameful. It notes that some victims were sent to the hospital due to sustained injuries and it took the intervention of the Accra Regional and Nima Divisional Police Command to bring the situation under control. The Paper says the actions of both parties are a threat to National Security of the two countries. The Ghanaian Times therefore calls for an immediate intervention to stop the confrontation between the two unions which has the tendency to mar the relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
