The National Road Safety Authority is training about five thousand commercial drivers nationwide to ensure safety on the roads.

A Director of the Authority, Catherine Hamilton, said the training is in response to directives from the Inter-Ministerial Committee for proactive steps to be taken to reduce road accidents.

About one thousand commercial drivers are being trained in Accra and Tema. This is to enable them drive safely on the road especially this season. Participants were taken through road signs, attitudes, tolerance, and how to deal with mechanical faults among others.

Regional Director of the NRSA, Catherine Hamilton, said the drivers were drawn from the various transport unions in order to monitor their activities.

According to Madam Hamilton, human error accounts for about 90 percent of road deaths. She said the Authority will not relent in its effort to curb road accidents.
