AFCON 25 qualifiers: Ashimeru, Inaki Williams and Joseph Paintsil return to Otto Addo’s 23-man squad

Head Coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, August 29, 2024, Coach Addo unveiled the team that will take on Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5th, followed by a match against Niger at Stade Municipal de Berkane on September 9, 2024.

The selection includes a mix of seasoned players and promising talents, aimed at securing Ghana’s spot in AFCON 2025.

The squad sees the return of notable players such as Majeed Ashimeru, Inaki Williams and Joseph Paintsil, who are expected to bring their experience and prowess to the field. The goalkeeping lineup features Lawrence Ati-Zigi from FC St. Gallen, Joseph Wollacott from Crawley Town and Frederick Asare from Asante Kotoko. In defence, Alidu Seidu, Tariq Lamptey and Alexander Djiku are among the names who will be safeguarding Ghana’s backline, ensuring a strong defence against their opponents.

Midfield responsibilities will be shouldered by the likes of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and Thomas Partey from Arsenal, while the forward line boasts the talents of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Inaki Williams and Jordan Ayew.

The blend of experienced internationals and emerging stars highlights Otto Addo’s strategy to balance seasoned leadership with youthful energy. As the Black Stars gear up for these crucial qualifiers, fans will be keeping a keen eye on their performance.
