The minister-designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has pledged to uphold and enhance the school feeding program during her tenure, focusing on providing quality food supplies and services to ensure the well-being of students.
During her vetting, the nominee addressed several challenges faced by the school feeding program under the previous administration, including outstanding payments to caterers and concerns about the quality and punctuality of food deliveries.
She noted, “It has been reported that about 48 days of payments have been made, with 31 days still in arrears. I will collaborate with the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Education to ensure the remaining payments are processed.”
Despite these challenges, she emphasized her belief in the importance of the school feeding program, acknowledging that while the initiative is valuable, improvements are needed in both food quality and accessibility.
“Another key aspect is refining the processes behind the program—ensuring food quality, accessibility, and timely delivery,” she said.
To address these issues, the nominee proposed decentralization of the school feeding program as a potential solution.
“Having a background in local governance, I am confident that decentralizing the program will allow us to ensure timely food distribution and better quality monitoring at the district level,” she explained.
She also expressed her willingness to work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of these changes.
