Akosombo Dam Spillage: 300 affected residents to be relocated to a completed Alternative Housing Project

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced  the relocation of the first batch of the flood displaced residents to a newly completed temporary housing project. 

The housing project dubbed the New Safe Alternative Housing Project is a partnership project being undertaken by the First Sky Group to help displaced residents find a place of shelter after the  Akosombo Dam spillage took over their houses. The completed first phase of the project, took seven weeks to see completion as announced by the lawmaker. 

In an announcement on his social media pages, Mr. Ablakwa expressed his delight to see such an intervention being undertaken with the swiftness and the urgency it deserves. He also stated that out of the number of displaced families, the phase one will house 300 residents. 

The rest will continue to occupy their current alternative places of classroom comforts till the second phase is also completed. He also announced transportation plans to help these families convey their belongings into their newly constructed homes to ease the financial burdens on them caused by the Dam spillage. The relocation will take effect on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

The devastating incident brought lots of discomfort and unpleasant moments to both parents and children within the enclaves of North and South Tongu. The initiative was taken as a quick intervention to enhance the lives of the people.

This initiative by the First Sky Group and the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa to tackle humanitarian emergency will go a long way in improving the livelihoods of the affected people who had their homes destroyed by the spillage.
