The Registrar of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Yaa Amankwaa Opuni has appealed to stakeholders in the Educational sector to introduce Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics, STEM to children at their early stage especially in the area of Coding and robotics.
This she said, will enhance their logical thinking and also make them develop interest in STEM education.
Ms. Opuni made the appeal when the Forum of Heads of Girls Senior High School, FOHG SHS organized a Summer Camp at Methodist Girls High School in Mamfe, in the Akuapim North District of the Eastern Region.
The FOHGSHS seek to bring together selected students from Girls Senior High Schools annually to unlock their talents especially in the area of Science and Mathematics which is considered a male dominated field of education.
This year’s Summer Camp is being hosted by Methodist Girls High School Mamfe, with 15 Girls SHS across the country.
The President of FOHGSHS, who doubles as the Headmistress of TI Ahmadiyya Islamic Girls SHS in Asokore Kumasi, Hajia Ayesha Nyantakyiwaa Boakye appealed for financial assistance in order to enroll more schools onto the Forum.
The Akuapim North Municipal Education Director, Lawrence Dzah entreated the students to attach outmost seriousness to STEM education and not make the camping a mere rhetoric.
He assured the students that his outfit will provide all the necessary tools needed for the success of the project.
Ms. Samuella Takyi from Saint Louis Senior High School in Kumasi and Princess Sabi from St. Roses SHS spoke speaking to GBC NEWS noted that such events will help boost their confidence level and also provide them with the requisite skills to shape their career after school.
