Arsenal has initiated discussions with midfielder Thomas Partey over a potential contract extension as his current deal approaches its expiry. The Ghanaian international’s contract is set to expire this summer, which could allow him to leave the club on a free transfer if no agreement is reached.
Once seen as a player likely to depart, Partey’s recent resurgence under manager Mikel Arteta has prompted the club to show renewed interest in retaining him. The 31-year-old midfielder has become an integral part of Arsenal’s squad, and both parties are keen to secure his future at the Emirates.
Partey has expressed his happiness at Arsenal, highlighting his family’s enjoyment of life in London. Despite rumors linking him to Barcelona and Juventus, he is open to signing a new deal that could span two years or include an initial one-year contract with an option to extend for an additional 12 months.
The midfielder is also considering alternative options should negotiations for a new contract not reach a successful conclusion. Since joining Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020, Partey has played a crucial role in the club’s progress, despite setbacks due to injuries.
He is set to miss the first leg of Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain on April 29, but is expected to return for the second leg on May 7, as the club aims to secure a place in the final.
