Asante Kotoko SC and Accra Hearts of Oak have jointly submitted a comprehensive proposal demanding for a minimum of 100 police personnel to be deployed for Category A and B matches, along with additional military presence for high-risk games to the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The two clubs, recognized as the leading forces in Ghanaian football, expressed deep concerns regarding the current state of the league and emphasized the need for immediate reforms to enhance the safety, security, and overall management of the game.
The proposal underscores the urgent need for the GFA to take control of security arrangements at league venues. The clubs stressed that the safety of individuals and property during matches must be prioritized, with an immediate implementation of strict adherence to Club Licensing Regulations.
Furthermore, the clubs outlined several long-term recommendations, including the full implementation of the Gbadegbe Commission report. They highlighted the necessity of installing security cameras at all league centers and conducting new risk assessments to ensure that matches are categorized properly. Matches that do not meet the necessary criteria for their respective categories should be relocated to suitable venues, according to the proposal.
One of the most significant demands from Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak is the push for the Ghana League to be made autonomous, managed by an independent team. This autonomy, they argue, would allow for better governance and improved operations within the league. The clubs also called for the GFA to advocate for exemptions of match proceeds from VAT and other deductions, ensuring that financial resources are maximized for the benefit of the clubs.
In addition, the proposal requests that the GFA provide transparency regarding televised matches, allowing the clubs to understand the number of matches that will be broadcasted each season.
This transparency is deemed essential for fair revenue distribution from sponsorship and TV rights deals. Lastly, both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak seek automatic representation on the GFA Executive Committee, ensuring that their voices are heard in crucial decision-making processes within Ghanaian football.
