Bawku special voting to continue despite gunfire- Police commander assures

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Raymond Adofiem, has assured residents of Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region that gunfire incidents early Monday morning, December 2, will not disrupt the special voting process.

Speaking during a visit to the Bawku Central Constituency to monitor the elections, DCOP Adofiem confirmed that the situation was under control due to the quick response of military personnel. He emphasized that adequate measures are in place to ensure that every eligible voter can safely cast their ballot.

DCOP Adofiem revealed plans to meet with parliamentary candidates from the Kusaug Traditional Area to discuss strategies for maintaining peace before, during, and after the elections. He disclosed that drones had been deployed to areas affected by the gunfire and warned those responsible for the violence to stop or face arrest.

By 1:50 p.m., 370 out of the 526 special voters in the Bawku Central Constituency had cast their ballots, with voting proceeding under heightened security.

The police commander’s visit highlights the commitment of security forces to protect voters and maintain peace in the face of tensions in the area.
